Summary: Positives: Very clean. Great shower with lots of hot water. Secure off-street parking though backing out onto the main street can be a bit tricky. Porto da Cruz is a safe, walkable village with several nice restaurants to choose from. Local distillery nearby with free tours. Local bus stop right outside the front door. I would highly recommend the non-express bus to Funchal as a great way to view the countryside, though it can be a bit scary for those unfamiliar with the narrow, steep roads! Negatives: Strong, musty odor each time you enter the cottage, most likely from the proximity to the ocean. A small, portable dehumidifier would help. The stove that is listed is actually a 2-burner hot plate. You can only run 1 kitchen appliance at a time. There is a washing machine but no dryer. A clothes line in the porch would help. It would also be helpful to have a handrail on the stairway, especially for going downstairs to the bathroom at night.
