Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: When I arrived, the hostel was closed because it was the low season, but after contacting the owner, he came and opened it for me. I spent the first night there alone and the second night with one other guest. The facilities were very clean, and it was clear that the owner really takes care of the place. He was also very friendly and helpful. The price was very good, especially considering the overall standard.

Negative: The only real downside was the somewhat noisy surroundings. In the morning, you could hear various sounds coming from the nearby fields, so it was not the quietest place. Also, as in some other places I visited in Southeast Asia, it seems that the low accommodation price is partly intended to attract guests who may then book tours through the hostel. In Nha Kiao, tour prices seemed to be fixed everywhere and there was no possibility of negotiating. I even heard that tour operators could get into trouble if they offered lower prices. This gives the impression that there is some kind of agreement between the operators to keep prices relatively high for foreign visitors compared with local prices and incomes.
