Fully licensed as tourist accommodation, Villa Azul is one of just three buildings situated at Quintinha au Sol - there are two newly built and privately let villas together with the central restored “Quinta”. Villa Azul is the slightly smaller two-bedroom/two-bathroom villa, slightly elevated so quite private with fantastic views of the Desertas Islands in the distance. All the villas have their own private space – so you don’t really see anybody else. The villa is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including heating, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher and a washing machine in the garage. Lounge doors open directly onto a south-facing balcony that surrounds two sides of the villa, with fantastic views to both Ponto da Sao Lorenco and the Desertas Islands. The villa enjoys sunshine all day.
Quintinha au Sol is in the village of Gaula which is about 300 metres directly above Santa Cruz and less than ten minutes from the airport. There are spectacular ocean views through 180 degrees and rural mountain views inland. Very often, on clear days, the neighbouring island of Porto Santo can be seen over and beyond Ponta Sao Lorenco, which is the eastern tip of the island. Gaula is only twenty minutes from the centre of Funchal. Villa Azul provides a perfect base to explore the island – and there is a tremendous variety of things to do – from lounging on the beach to walking along the levadas, playing golf, discovering the Old Town in Funchal, and visiting the high mountains. It is a quiet and peaceful location but at the same time you are on the motorway within a few minutes (with the capital Funchal only 15 minutes away) and the local village (Santa Cruz) just 5 minutes. The perfect sandy beach at Machico is less than 10 minutes (with yet more good restaurants and cafes).
Villa Azul is licensed for tourism under the strictly-regulated Madeiran 'Alojemente Locale' scheme (AL). The scheme requires holiday villas to conform to safety, service and insurance standards.
