Positive: From the moment we arrived at Villa Tranberg, we felt welcomed into a world of comfort and genuine hospitality. The property features two spacious suites—one on the main floor and one upstairs, with large, spotlessly clean bedrooms (fresh linens every third day or so, which felt like a treat). Our suite’s sitting room was stocked with thoughtful touches: Port wine, a fridge with white and red wine and water (flat, sparkling and flavored), a Nespresso-style coffee machine, tea, fresh fruit, and fresh flowers. Stepping through the French doors, we enjoyed quiet mornings and evenings on a secluded patio; the upstairs suite offers a grand balcony for soaking in the views. The bathrooms are generously sized, with plush towels changed daily or whenever needed and high-quality toiletries, plus extra towels for the heated, beautiful pool. The garden, lovingly tended by the host, Håkon, is a lush oasis of tropical plants—a perfect backdrop for relaxation. There’s also a lovely common living room, beautifully furnished and decorated, with a perfectly tuned upright piano as an unexpected bonus; we learned that this room is generally only used on rainy days (like twice :-) a year in Portugal) and during winter (Portugal winter!), or for special occasions like New Year's celebration with friends and family. Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. Each morning, we were treated to a feast on the porch (with a view): almost everything came straight from the garden and orchard—figs, almonds, pomegranates, eggs from their hens, homemade yogurt and jams (some flavors were completely new to us), and, best of all, Håkon’s freshly baked sourdough bread. Gabriela’s (the hosts's) attention to detail shone through in every setting, with fine China, impeccable utensils, cloth napkins, and handmade placemats. While you are enjoying breakfast, the suites are cleaned and replenished with the good stuff !

Negative: If I had to mention a challenge, it would be the narrow access roads—so drive carefully and trust that Google Maps will get you there, even if it seems confused at times. The traffic is very light as you are approaching the villa, so no worries in that regard. The villa’s peaceful location, away from the bustle, is close to all the touristy places which are easily accessible by car, so we were able to see almost everything in only 5 days. Take your time at breakfast—savor the homemade sourdough and the garden’s bounty. Don’t rush; let yourself unwind in the tranquil garden, and don’t hesitate to chat with your hosts. Their warmth and care make the experience truly special. If you’re driving, approach the narrow roads with patience—the serenity that awaits is well worth the journey. Most of all, come ready for a different kind of stay: you’ll leave not just refreshed, but with new friends and cherished memories. Villa Tranberg is a place where hospitality feels personal and every detail is crafted with love. We arrived as guests and left feeling like true, lifelong friends.
